Uno's World - Synopsis

How is our path through life determined? Some people know from the beginning where they want to go, some allow life to choose for them and some learn from experience.
Uno's World is the world of young people in a modern African city: the world of energy and apprehension, of dreams and fears in the dizzy spell of youth.
Uno is a beautiful but tired 25 year old. She lives freely, vicariously and even dangerously. In her attempt to forget her real life, she also forgets her responsibilities. She is a single mother. She has lived too soon, too fast. Her child becomes a symbol of the youth she has lost. Uno knows what she wants out of life, but life has chosen differently. Will she learn from the experience?
Uno meets Jose, sophisticated and charming. He introduces her to a new world: the world of intoxicating luxury. A world where men and women take what they want regardless of society's laws. Jose is an illegal diamond dealer, a man without scruples, who has a tempting justification for his ruthless determination. "The diamonds come from the land, our land, they belong to us. Fuck De Beers".
Skirting and slithering on the periphery of this twosome is Kaura, the father of Uno's child. A former freedom fighter, forgotten and lost, he tries to weave himself back into Uno's life, to make something meaningful out of his own. He has lost the will to decide for himself and spends his time gambling, trying to score 'the big one'.
UNO is the pivot around which these two men revolve. She watches as Jose looses sight of his humanity, living only for acquiring and possessing. She sees Kaura allow the world to defeat him ... and from this she decides how to determine the path she wants to follow.
